Holiday Donuts

Holiday Donuts

I finally feel like I’m as done as I can be with all the gifts and obligations tied to Christmas and so now we are doing fun leisurely stuff like baking.  These delicious mini donuts are an easy alternative to Christmas cut out sugar cookies.  Leave it to Arabella to step outside the norm and ask to make Christmas donuts instead of Christmas cookies.  This was actually really easy and fun to do, much simpler than rolling out dough and cutting cookies and repeating for hours by yourself while your kids are done after the first round!  The donuts are baked and you can find the recipe and how to here (simple box mix and icing) on a previous post I did for the 4th of July.  The post gives a step by step tutorial of how to frost.  All you have to do is change the icing colors to red and green (or your holiday color choices) and keep them on separate plates so they don’t mix and do the donuts single colors or you could also swirl the colors together like it shows!  Kids love embellishing so pick up some holiday theme sugars and sprinkles and add the embellishments after you frost.  Now you have a fun and delicious afternoon activity.  My sprinkles are from here!

Can you tell which ones I did and which ones the kids did?  Windsor’s ended up crumbled  on the floor and half ate and Arabella had fun with the sugar and frosting.

We love making baked donuts so I always keep an extra box on hand.  They are so easy and the frosting is even easier to make!  For some reason, I always feel like this is a much healthier alternative to the fried but I could be way off, but it helps that these are mini because you don’t feel as guilty having one (or two!).  I hope you guys have as much fun as we did making these!
