APPLE PICKING

APPLE PICKING

When temperatures reach below 65, the leaves start turning orange and red and the air gets crisp, we always rush off to go apple picking!  The beginning of fall is one of my favorite times of year because I love the activities it brings.  I looked up our favorite Apple Orchard and planned a date to go for the family.

For apple picking we like the no frills type of place.  Heinz Orchard in Libertyville is super close by and it’s just apples and the sweetest family owned staff.  Luckily we went on the perfect day, they had just opened the upper orchard and we were lucky enough to be one of the only ones there.  There was a light drizzle so the orchard was empty, but the apples were plenty and perfect!

I was amazed at the way their apple trees grew.  I know the apple trees we had growing up did not grow this way, they must groom them so even the smallest humans can reach!  It was pure joy watching the kids pick apples, especially Windsor because this was her first time and she was just old enough to get it but still be memorized.

After a few hours of picking and running through the orchard we returned home and made apple pies!

We had a blast!  What do you put on your families fall bucket list?  Next up for us, pumpkin patch, with all the frills!
